Syöte Visitors Centre


The Syöte Visitors Centre is your gateway to the Syöte National Park. Hear the whisper of the spruces and feel the breath of history at the Visitors Centre’s permanent exhibition – it will tell you all about the interaction between humans and nature in the Syöte wilderness over the centuries. Admire the snow-capped spruces over a cup of coffee, or relax with a nature film. We can provide tips for nature trails in Syöte, making it easy to plan an active holiday on our forested hills.

Services: Travel tips, permit sales, exhibition and trail guides for groups, conference rooms, a cafeteria providing lunch (during the season) and catering for groups (pre-ordered), souvenirs, and Metsähallitus logo products. There is also a lean-to shelter in the yard.

Nearby sights and activities
Syöte offers plenty of choice for daytrippers! Skiing, mountain biking and hiking are some of the most popular activities in the Syöte area. Several nature trails start right on the doorstep of the Visitors Centre. Wingbeats in the Wilderness (0.5 km) will tell you about local birdlife, while the Mossbeard Trail (3 km) provides insight into the local landscape and wildlife. Syöte’s frisbee golf course (2 km) is located right next to the Visitors Centre – bring your own equipment or hire some from the centre. You can admire the majestic landscape with its forested hills from the peak of the Iso-Syöte fell.

If you fancy a longer trail, then head for the crown forest crofts of Ahmatupa or Rytivaara – hiking in summer or cross-country skiing in winter. You can hire an overnight cabin at both locations.

The Visitors Centre serves visitors to the Syöte National Park, Iso-Syöte Hiking Area and the entire Syöte area.
