Raahe archipelago

–

Spend a summer day on a deserted island, enjoy a hike on nature trails, breathe the pure sea air, or just lie back and take in the splendid surroundings. Part of the Natura 2000 European Union-wide network of protected areas, this unique archipelago was voted Finland’s best hiking destination in 2016. It can be reached by private boat, by kayak (available for rent from the Pikkulahti rowing centre) or by hopping aboard the boat leaving from the museum harbour.

The archipelago has several lean-tos and a welcoming island café that can be reached in winter on skis, snowshoes, on foot or by fatbike. Or for a less strenuous choice, just let a sledge take you there! Once you reach the café, there are freshly-smoked whitefish and other delicacies in store.

There is a good range of accommodation, including a historical pilot’s cottage, sailor’s shelters, shelter cabins and tents.
