Kuusisaari Park

–

Just a ten-minute walk from the town centre, Kuusisaari offers a variety of recreational opportunities and an active day out in a wonderful setting. The island’s campfire sites are regularly used all year round, and there are also plenty of fishing spots. The wide grassy areas also provide a great setting for enjoying a sunny summer day, for example, by having a relaxed picnic.

For those in search of active leisure activities, street basketball is the best way to get fit! At the end of the day, you can take a dip in the water or watch a local football game at the nearby stadium. By the way, did you know that Kuusisaari is also the number one place in Oulu’s lively summer calendar? Festivals, concerts and other music events will make you feel the rhythm of rock and pop every summer.

The estuary landscape also offers a sample of the cultural environment valued by Oulu residents. Opposite Kuusisaari, on the other side of the canal, you’ll find the colourful stone towers of Toivoniemi. The tower blocks were part of the plans for Koskikeskus drawn up by the legendary Finnish architect Alvar Aalto, which also included the Raati stadium and Oulujoki fountains.
