The oldest surviving wooden building in Oulu, the Sailor’s Home Museum is located in the idyllic Pikisaari very close to the centre of Oulu.
The building is also known as the Matila house after sailor Isak Matilainen who used to live there. The museum takes its visitors back in time to see how sailors and their families used to live in the maritime town of Oulu in the past. The past lives of sailors are interesting to both locals and tourists. The museum is easy to access – all you need to do is cross the footbridge from Oulu Market Square.
